As a pioneer in the travel trailer industry, Airstream has been dedicated to exploring the future of RVing. Since its founding in 1931, Airstream has earned the nickname "Silver Bullet" for its iconic aluminum streamlined design. In recent years, the brand has continued to introduce innovative products, such as the eStream concept trailer unveiled in 2022, which features a 242-horsepower electric motor and an 80.0 kWh lithium battery, and the urban-style camping concept trailer developed in collaboration with Studio F.A. Porsche in 2023.

Now, Airstream has launched its first all-electric travel trailer—the Basecamp 20Xe. This special edition trailer, created in partnership with outdoor retail brand REI, is designed for adventurers seeking sustainable energy solutions and off-road exploration. Compared to traditional fuel-powered towable RVs, the Basecamp 20Xe operates entirely on electric power, reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

The Basecamp 20Xe is equipped with a 10.3 kWh Battle Born lithium battery pack, providing stable power to its 30A electrical system. Even when battery levels are low, the trailer can rely on its 600-watt rooftop solar panels (upgradable to 900 watts) and a 3000-watt inverter to maintain power supply. This setup enables campers to stay off-grid for longer periods while remaining energy self-sufficient.

Designed to be compact yet rugged, the Basecamp 20Xe is suitable for towing with a variety of mid-size SUVs. To handle rough terrain, the trailer comes standard with a 3-inch lift kit, durable off-road tires, and aluminum rock guards that effectively protect against impacts from rocks or branches. These features enhance its off-road capabilities, allowing it to tackle harsh weather and challenging road conditions with ease.

Although it is an electric trailer, the Basecamp 20Xe retains some traditional energy sources. It includes a 20-pound propane tank that powers the stove, making it possible to boil water, cook meals, and grill outdoors. Additionally, propane can be used to heat water for showers or to warm the interior, ensuring comfort during winter camping trips.

For water supply, the Basecamp 20Xe features a 23-gallon freshwater tank and a cold-water recirculation system, allowing campers to go on short-term trips without frequently refilling or replacing their water supply.

With its eco-friendly design, portability, and strong off-road performance, the Airstream Basecamp 20Xe is a compelling new option for camping enthusiasts. The starting price for this model is $76,900, while the standard 16-foot Basecamp trailer starts at $48,300.
